Merrill is located in the Scenic Southern Klamath County near the Oregon–California border.

TULE LAKE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located in the fertile and intensively farmed Tule Lake Basin of northeast California. It was established in 1928 by President Calvin Coolidge “as a preserve and breeding ground for wild birds and animals,” yet was still subject to conversion from wetland habitats to farmland under the Bureau of Reclamations Klamath Project.

CRATER LAKE

Visit America’s Deepest Lake

With a depth of 1,943 feet, Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States – and one of the most beautiful. The water’s intense blue color is an indication of its great depth and purity. Surrounded by cliffs, the lake is fed entirely by rain and snow. Scientists consider Crater Lake to be the cleanest and clearest large body of water in the world.

LOST RIVER

The Lost River originating in California, flows north into Oregon in Klamath County then ends up back in California at Tule Lake. The wetland area once provided an important food source for Native Americans and local settlers.

A sluggish stream, Lost River offers fishing opportunities for bass, up to 7 lb (3.2 kg), brown bullhead, crappie, yellow perch, and Sacramento perch.
